Parting Ways with Indaba Group

It has been almost exactly a year since joining Indaba Group as a full-time member of their team. It has been a great experience but their business has evolved rapidly in unexpected ways and now it is time for me to find a new path.

Indaba Group is an excellent company filled with outstanding developers. This separation is mutually amicable… They are good friends and I have no doubt that we will do business again in the future.
If you are still reading then you are no doubt wondering what would cause this departure after only a year of full-time employment. Well, here’s what happened in a nutshell:
The last bit was the real clincher. In a shop of ~15 developers, one remote worker is extremely difficult to manage. It was frustrating on both ends.
Well, gosh. It feels pretty strange to be so idle after such a wild ride the last couple of years. I would like to get back in the saddle quickly and find another excellent team to contribute to.

A Little Background

  • The ASUG project slowed way down.
  • Indaba Group has not found any other clients similar with similar needs (and not for lack of effort).
  • The partner who hired me decided to sell his portion and leave the company.
  • I had become the only remote worker.

Now What?

This time, though, I will either stick closer to home or find a team that has more remote workers.

This is a fantastic industry, I love the work I do, and I can’t wait to get going again!
